Tim on Apr 19, 2011Since we don't have so much graphic artists on here I thought it would be clever to do one thread for 2 months instead one month.
I'm right at this one, could need some feedback. I'm not 100% in love with this one, any one has something to say?

The flares are a little distracting on top by the text and seem to be there for little reason other than aesthetics, especially on the right.

work on the lettering. i could see a fat slab serif or some sort of extended woodtype working much better. -

Thanks for the feedback, I know that the type was rushed. :P I was excited that I finally found something that could work for my logo. -

Tim, this looks great man! Awesome work! I would just suggest taking the texture out of his forehead so he is more defined and change the italic text. Maybe make the cd name italic n the band name reg bold condensed font?
Great work though man. I'll look forward to seeing a finish of this. -

Very cool man, I like this a lot! I love the front and back cover, the inside tray and inside booklet page and disc. I feel like the inner pages of the book could use some more work. -

The back of this one looks really awesome. But there is something about the darkness in the front cover which bothers me a bit. -

Hm, not quite sure why, looks fine to me, carries from the back. Thing that bothers me after looking at it again, is the logo on the front, I think it throws it off, I will have to fix this.

Actually I think the logo isn't the best at all, I saw some other work you did for this artist and everytime the logo really bothered me. Looks a bit unprofessional. Don't get me wrong but it seems that this isn't a real high quality work. (talking about the front, back looks still excellent.)

Great thread, love all the work posted here. I did this site for a swimwear company in California. His suits have been in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and all over. Well made and insanely beautiful fabric.

Well that is the logo he decided on, not much I can do about that whether I love it or hate it, I'm not the one writing the check. If he had told me to smear dog shit on white paper in a pointy wolverine font, I'd have done that too. Sometimes a client just wants what HE wants. -

i just want to chime in, a little out of curiosity, but man, sometimes nothing spoils a good design like some bands' art direction or pre-existing logo, no matter how hard we try to fit it in or justify it visually.
oh, i've argued "as a designer", but in the end, we're in the happiness business, and the client, like cash, is king.

Thanks for the feedback dudes! I too noticed that I have to center it. As for the colour, I dont think he wants the colours to be too exciting (which I understand because it wouldn't fit the type of music. Im gonna play around a bit more with the colour. And I think it would be nicer without text but my friends telling me to add it the the bottom, so I'll do that.

Is this a logo for yourself?
I think you could distress the logo a bit or add some distressed texture in there. Suggest downloading some distressed or grunge photoshop patterns and activating them in the "layer effects" palette in photoshop, will give you more options. Just a thought?
I can email you a cool photoshop distressed letterpress action that I've purchased if you are interested? May be something cool to play around with. -

Yeah, this is my personal logo. rustyeight at gmail.com I'd definitely be interested in that action. I do plan on texturing it, but felt it may be on a case by case basis.

poster I am working on for a band whos album artwork I've done. (featured on the poster). This is still in the pretty rough stages, and still working on the custom logo lettering, there is a typeface in here as a placeholder.
Will post finish whenever it is completed. I will have a lot more pretty cool projects to post up soon as well.
