Idea for the JOBS section

I think it'd be cool to know what date someone posted a job. So you know if you're gonna the first (or last) to reply to them.
  • Brock May on Mar 01, 2011

    that would be nice.

pretty sure the projects auto delete after 30 days so none of them are that old. BUT i think this is a really good idea and i bet joey can knock it out relatively easily (i think) so ill let him know for sure.

Was just thinking the same thing too.

Good idea man. Also, I believe the poster also has the option of deleting the post if they found someone. Who knows if they do it.

in other news its nice to see traffic heading to the Jobs section, i still think there should be a minimum at some point.

dbdesign said: I'm not a fan of the jobs page, the compensation offered by the poster, for all of the projects is far too low for the work that is requested, in my opinion. I was flipping through the other day, I wouldn't even consider doing a band logo for $50, I think there should maybe be some restrictions somehow on compensation. Maybe a bidding process and the poster can base the winning bid on the portfolio of the artist on bandjob. Similar to the site Elance.com .

I understand some bands can't afford it...but it's almost an insult, because an artist like myself, who would like to get some extra work and gain new clients..but I wouldn't even bother working on a job for prices that low, as an established designer, and I think I speak for most artists on this site.

Just maybe something to think about.

If you see a low paying job, take it. But remind the client that they are getting what they pay for, and you as the artist need to remember that too. If its 50 bucks, put an hour or two into it and call it a day. That is the best way for people to learn, and its efficient.

i get you WH, but why do you want a mod to go thru them? there are only 14 right now haha. so if they suck just ignore them OR better yet, email them and tell them to eat a dick.

i think the fact that there are super stupid low paying jobs in the jobs section less of a problem and more of a benefit, because those stupid jobs aren't in the forum as the same thread where people talk about the same points over and over.

True, good points. I'd much rather have them in the job section than flooding the forum. I find it hilarious that when you do respond to them saying their prices are atrocious, they get pissed off and try to insult you.

i have been sending emails to low paying jobbeees that go like this:

"Hi XXXXXX, hope you are well.

i am contacting you today with regards to your job listing at bandjob.com

the reason i am contacting you is to offer some advice, the budget you posted for your job is considered extremely low by the artists that frequent bandjob (and elsewhere) i would suggest upping your budget dramatically in order to be taken seriously by the community.

i mean no disrespect with this email, one thing we are learning over at bandjob is that potential customers do not understand the monetary value of art and our aim in a wider scope is to bring attention to this matter.

take care and good luck XXXXXXX.

any questions feel free to shoot."

half the responses have been great, the other half have been of the "actually ive already found an artist willing to work for $50" variety.

Nicely done Craig. I wouldn't do a logo for $50 at all. It'll encourage others to do the same, and is just another kink in this already difficult industry.

But as said previously, it's nice there is actually some jobs there.

most bands wanting to pay 50 for a fuckin design are young, probably in high school, and most likely living with their parents. they could easily pay more by mowing some lawns or selling one of their PS3 games, but they dont.

the truth is they don't care enough about what they do (musically) to see the value in it. the ones who do get it are the ones who people take seriously and actually have a shot.

Anyone seen the SEEKER job post? $50 for a t-shirt design. Come on!
I though it was bad enough for a logo. I think the job section needs rules of some sort when people post jobs. Minimums maybe? I dunno.

Plus they're just talking shit. They don't have QUALITY designers lined up at $20. They can say they do all they want, but they're fucking liars.

I noticed a bunch of bands put "Dependent on quality of work" as the compensation in the job postings and that doesn't really tell how much money the band actually has to spend on the design.

So what if the "Compensation" was changed to "Budget"? And maybe the question in the "Add a job" form from "How much does this job pay?" to "How much money do you have for this project? or something like that.

I don't know, if it'd change the way bands post jobs though...

"We want an illustration of us performing on a stage in Hell arranged in one of our signature pyramid formations (as seen here http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=290437840984776&set=a.211806615514566.61314.206547422707152&type=1&theater). another one..for a logo design:
