The Return of Bruce Wayne

zeblove on Jul 28, 2010I don't know how many comic book enthusiasts are here on Band Job, but I feel like I need to share how incredible this series is. This is one of the biggest things to happen in the Batman series.
It picks up right after the graphic novel Final Crisis. It's a 6 part series where Bruce Wayne travels back to present day Gotham. It's written by Grant Morrison (who in my opinion is the greatest comic book writer of all time).
The series takes place after a couple major series Grant wrote.
It started with:

Then:

Then:

Then Tony Daniel wrote Battle for the Cowl. In which all the heroes are together..trying to figure out what to do, now that Bruce Wayne/Batman is gone.

Then Grant started this series. In which Tim Drake/Night Wing is now Batman. And Bruce Wayne's son Damien, is Robin. Parts of the story also correlate with the Return of Bruce Wayne story.

In Final Crisis something happens to Bruce, that sends him back into time. I don't want to say anything more, because I don't want to spoil the story for anyone. Definitely give it a read though!

Yeah I want to see it too. Although, Kevin Conroy isn't doing the voice of Batman. Which sucks because he has done the voice since the animated series in the 90's.

pw! on Jul 29, 2010for some weird reason i've been a little hesitant to get into the recent batman stuff despite Grant Morrison being one of the best writers in comic books. this is ignorance talking here, but his Batman and Final Crisis seems too...pop? compared to, say, all-star Superman being the best thing i've ever read about a character i really don't care about. hell, without even getting into Invisibles or we3, even New X-Men was exciting and brilliant on a stale franchise (maybe the best i ever read for the team....until Astonishing).
are those DC animated films worth checking out? i was impressed with the Superman one surprisingly (made toyman seem cool), and i bought New Frontier, but only because i am one of the most rabid fanboys of Darwyn Cooke. sometimes i'm afraid they will still stink a little bit -
Kevin on Jul 29, 2010I definitely want to check this out.
-
AtomicChild on Jul 29, 2010How would batman work in the past...unless his people go back with him to make all of his weapons
-
Jason Taylor on Jul 29, 2010I love Batman, though like Joey, I'm way out of the loop with it all.
Last one I read was the Frank Miller, The Dark Knight Returns.
That latest game, Arkham Asylum was probably the best Batman game ever. -
Jason Taylor on Jul 29, 2010And I love this cover!

-
Joey on Jul 29, 2010the last batman anything i read was hush and it's pretty much the coolest of all things.
-
zeblove on Jul 29, 2010pw: I haven't read any of Superman's stuff. I'm not sure I catch your drift when you say his writing for the Batman stuff is too 'pop'. Definitely check out Batman: Mask of the Phantasm! One of the darkest animated Batman movies I've seen.
Atomic Child: He doesn't really use many weapons in the past. He has his classic bat-a-rang..but that's about all.
Jason: Dark Knight Returns was the first graphic novel I ever read. Got me hooked on them!
Joey: Hush was so good. Read The Long Halloween...it's pretty rad. -
pw! on Jul 29, 2010dude Mask of the Phantasm IS one of the best DC cartoons ever; i was crazy about the whole animated batman series. i don't know about other superman stories, but Morrison's "All Star Superman" 12 issue series was brilliant.
-
Joey on Jul 29, 2010mask of the phantasm is like legit good.
zeb: i've read long halloween (and the other one that's a lot like it). that's probably my favorite batman thing of all time. -

bah. what REALLY sucks is that mark hamil isn't the joker's voice. though the guy who's doing it seemed to be trying to do a bit of a tribute ...which i appreciated.
the long halloween is probably my favorite batman comic. though i thought hush and arkham asylum were really good too.
some of my joker stuff:

-
pw! on Jul 30, 2010i think the joker in "red hood" is the same guy as Fry from futurama and Stimpy!
long halloween rules, and Dark Victory rules even harder, especially since i'm a huge Two Face fan. now if they could just do the ultimate Ra's Al Ghul story i could die a happy kid
Angryblue that's an awesome Joker collection! back in march '09 i took part in a Joker tribute show at a comic book store in philly. here was mine. i framed it twice, sort of, after whipping a dart at the glass

Angryblue on Jul 30, 2010i like that a lot!
