Site Suggestions/Request

MarcoBrunato on May 19, 2010I start this topic so users can give impressions /suggestion/crtics to help improve this great site.
My first request is to add a "subscribe function" to topics, in order to get an email each time someone replys to a topic we wrote in.
thank you -

I second the subscribe, and add that we should be able to subscribe to artists, so when they post something new we can be notified! -
Skull With Hair on May 20, 2010wow thanks for starting this thread. I definitely would love any feature that makes it easier on people to keep up with whats going on.
we have definitely been trying to figure out how to make the site even better so please keep the ideas and feedback coming. we are listening for sure. -
Skull With Hair on May 21, 2010i want some contests around this bitch, what do you guys think?
-
zeblove on May 22, 2010Contests would be pretty cool!
One thing I would really like is to have an extra square underneath the project image. Right now there are 3, and I would like the 4th to just be a link to see the high-res image/full view of whatever project that may be. The link doesn't have to be something hosted by Band Job. It could just a URL we paste into there, and when you click it..takes you straight to the full project. I think it would be really helpful for such things as large cd layouts/booklets..etc.
It would be clean, and more efficient than just posting the 'full view' in the comments.

Just a suggestion! -
MarcoBrunato on May 23, 2010I've noticed that right & left arrow ,in the small project gallery down on the right, don't work.
-
pw! on May 24, 2010i second Zeb regarding links to send people elsewhere. i was going to suggest a panoramic option because selfishly, i end up doing a lot of layouts that spill out from the square, but at least being able to redirect someone to, say, my blog, might help. for now though, i am fine posting those kinds of bonus images in the comments section.
i'm having some minor [code?] problems with the messaging area. for one, if someone doesn't enter in a subject line, i can't click into their message to see what they said (short of my e-mail notification). also, every time i try to read what i "sent" , it just takes me somewhere else. minor minor minor and hardly worth mentioning
i think i would utilize the subscribe feature, however i also like keeping tabs on the site regularly enough to not miss the new awesome stuff too
overall though, i think Bandjob is both an amazing forum and impressive web design. -
zeblove on Jun 05, 2010One cool feature might be to put a 'for sale' page. Users with a Band Job artist code could put up designs they have for sale. It could be very simple, only 2 images: one detailed/one on a mock up.
I know I have a lot of unused merch designs laying around on my hard drive, and I'm sure quite a few of you guys have some too. While they are gathering dust, they may as well be looked at by potential buyers?
Just a thought. I too think Bandjob is a fantastic resource for artists. -

I totally disagree. The 'for sale' text that goes up on 50% of the stuff on emptees really gets on my nerves. It's one of the reasons I rarely post on there. Let keep this place for chosen jobs. Emptees has turned into a market place, rather than a showcase. -

not so sure about that. i think a designs for sale page would be great for the artists and if it was artist code users onl the quality would stay high. -
zeblove on Jun 11, 2010Also, another way to prevent the site to become anything close to Emptees is...putting limits on how many designs you can put up for sale. I absolutely hate it when someone submits like 4-5 things all at once. Sure they might be good, but I just feel like it's too much.
So: Artist code users only can submit for sale designs. And, you can only have 1-2 designs for sale at any given time.
I think that could be nice. -

This is the same thing I thought would be good. Limiting would be a great way to control the amount as well as giving each artist more possibility of sales. I love just designing to design and I dont pitch much to bands so a for sale would be a great place to showcase some unapproved work. -
keith on Jun 12, 2010Email notifications when somebody comments on your stuff would be great.

Skull With Hair on Jun 13, 2010thanks to everyone to taking the time to share your suggestions. we read all of them and are gonna do everything we can to make BJ the raddest site to hang out on and be a part of. stoked.

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe a tab at the top that says 'for sale' would work. Emptees is just saturated with great work that says 'for sale' underneath. Just kinda made emptees a shop rather than a showcase. But maybe I'm being too snobby. x -

id like to have this -
NickIsRelapse on Jun 24, 2010I think it would be nice to have an Admin option on your projects to view who favorites your stuff. (i know, like emptees...but i dig that feature)

heavyprints on Jun 24, 2010Pagination would be nice, the poster contest thread is destroying my crappy internet connection.

A great alternative to pagination in my opinion is jQuery Lazyload. It simply loads the images that are visible on your screen. So it will only load the other images when you scroll down. And it looks cool too.

SNAKEBOAT on Jun 24, 2010I'm having problems with large threads using firefox. Like the contest thread stops after a comment from over a day ago. Also, my cursor won't read active links on anything too far down in a thread. (ex: the quote button or email button aren't active) I tried clearing my cache and that didn't work. I don't know if anyone else has these problems.

I don't have that problem with chrome, but it still would be nice to have multiple pages threads. It does get a bit daunting entering long threads like the contest one. Though I do enjoy the ever expanding animated gif thread.
